Nishijin Textile Centre

Nishijin Textiles are well known as one of Japan’s representative traditional craft forms. In this seven storey modern building, devoted to the history of this rich weaving tradition, visitors can see all kinds of Nishijin textiles (kimonos and obi sashes), weaving demonstrations, as well as trying on kimonos from different historical eras.

Nijo Castle

The Kyoto residence of the Tokugawa Shogun, built in 1603 Nijo Castle is famous for the contrast between its restrained exterior and gorgeous interior.

Experience of Yuzen Dyeing (handkerchiefs)

The Kyo-Yuzen process, devised about 300 years ago, is a unique technique for dyeing clothes beautifully. Yuzen (printed silk) is representative of typical Japanese Dyeing techniques. You can dye your own handkerchief using stencils.

Fureaikan, Kyoto Museum of Traditional Crafts

Situated on the basement of the Miyako Messe, this facility is devoted to the traditional craft culture of Kyoto. The hall also has modern media facilities such as video stations, computer searching, and a library devoted to Kyoto’s traditional industries.

The brightly colored shrine with its vermilion pillars and green roof and enchanting inner gardens and ponds, reflects the elegance of life in the ancient Japanese court.

Nishiki Food Market

This market, set up along Nishikikoji St. between Teramachi and Takakura streets, is known as the "kitchen of Kyoto". On this narrow, stone-paved street, about 150 grocery stores sell the best fresh produce available in Kyoto. It is always bustling with customers who come to look, taste and buy the best.

The Museum of Kyoto

This museum is devoted to providing a comprehensive introduction to the culture and history of Kyoto. The modern main building holds regular major international art exhibitions. It also houses exhibits related to Kyoto and Reference rooms.

Kawashima Selkon Textiles Co., Ltd.

Kawashima Selkon Textiles Co., Ltd. is a Japan-based textile company. The Dressing and Artistic Craft segment offers obi (Japanese traditional sashes), kimono wear, drop curtains, hanging scrolls, woven goods, table centrepieces, yukata (summer kimono) and handicraft works, as well as artistic craft works.

Sanjusangendo Hall

This renowned long wooden temple houses 1001 statues of Kannon Bodhisattva, dating back to the 13th century.

Kiyomizu Temple

A quaint old lane lined with pottery shops leads up to this famous temple. Enjoy a sweeping view of the entire city of Kyoto from its lofty terrace.

Day 4 - Thursday 15 July (Travel to Nara)

Todaiji Temple

Constructed in the 8th century, it is one of Japan's most famous and historically significant temples. In its huge precincts are various national treasures of Japan. (The Commemorative Events of the 1th Anniversary of Nara Heijo-kyo Capital will be held in 2010.)
